My favourite colour of tights is black! I'm afraid although I have several other colours the ones I wear most are black tights. It's mainly because I've got a very unexciting wardrobe and have lots of skirts that go best with black tights. They are the preferred colour for looking smart with a knee length skirt for many women too. Just look at the legs of commuters on the train (No, perhaps not!) and see how many women wear black tights. In my mother's day it was American Tan. That was her preference anyway - she wore lots of light coloured skirts that needed paler tights to look right.
I love my thick black wooly tights - they're fantastic in winter. I adore my smooth soft shiny black sheer tights that I wear with my smartest black skirt (Also my shortest black skirt) that sets off my leather shoes so well.
In winter opaque black is more popular mostly because they're warmer as they're thicker material used to make them. The thicker tights are the more opaque they are.
